Step 3c: Prepare Landsat data in SAGA

  1. Download the template folder for your city. Unzip the files to your hard disk using extraction software built into Microsoft Windows. Alternatively, use 7zip). Rename the folder to the name of your chosen city.
  2. Unzip all downloaded Landsat scenes. Note that they are zipped twice so you need to do this operation 2 times.
  3. Copy all TIF files into a temporary folder such as the Desktop. This makes the import easier and the files can be deleted afterwards.
  4. Start SAGA GIS. If you do not have a copy, download it from here.
  5. From the main menu, select Geoprocessing -> File -> Grid -> Import -> Import, Clip and Resample Grid to open this tool, as shown below.

Select files for all bands. BQA indicates Quality assessment and is not needed

Select files for all bands. BQA indicates Quality assessment and is not needed. B1 and B9 contain cloud information and thus are less relevant. So is the panchromatic band B8.

Next move onto Step 4, where you will start Google Earth and set up the environment for digitizing training areas.
