Step 2: Select your city of interest

To start the process of gathering information globally, we have identified a number of cities (listed below), for which we have acquired the Landsat data needed to generate Level 0 data. These are part of the C40 group of cities.

The spatial limits of each city were obtained from a map of the global urban extent derived on MODIS data (Schneider et al., 2009). For each city, a 10 km buffer was created around the urban extent and the maximum/minimum limits around this area was used to create a Region of Interest (ROI). The ROI has also been used to extract the city area from the larger Landsat images. You will use these ROI files as the boundary for your digitization of the training areas.

Look at this list and see whether your city of interest is listed. If so, please move onto to Step 3 (Pathway 1). If the city you are interested in is not here, then move onto Step 3a (Pathway 2).
